PASSWORD BASE DOOR LOCK SYSTEM USING ATMEGA8

INTRODUCTION:

Using embedded system we have created a world which is safe and more reliable. To make it safer today we are going to introduce you to password based door lock system. The traditional lock systems are not safe as anyone can break them. But the digital lock system are genuine consisting of a keypad which is installed at the side hedge of the door, through which password can be entered and the door will only open in case of password match.

CIRCUIT DIAGRAM:

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION:

A). HARDWARES:

1. Micro controller:

Atmega8 is the 8 bit microcontroller which belongs to Atmel family. It is operationally rich, which could perform various operations like PWM, UART, SPI, I2C, ADC etc.

2. DC motor:

The L – shape single shaft dc BO motor provides good torque. Small size and light weight makes it suitable for the circuit.

4. L293d:

L293D is a motor driver IC which uses H- bridge network to control the speed of motor. It is frequently used in robots due to its small size.

5. LCD:

Liquid crystal display is the display device which is thinner than the CRT. It is very simple device which is commonly used in many circuits.

6. Push Button

B). SOFTWARE:

1. Atmel Studio
2. Proteus

WORKING:

Working principle of this project is very simple. The software part is written in Atmel Studio in Embedded C and verified on Proteus. There is a keypad which is formed by using 16 push buttons. When we will press these buttons then Atmega8 microcontroller will start getting the value corresponding to the button. Once we enter the 4 digit password, the Atmega8 microcontroller compares it with the already stored password. In case of password match, the motor will start rotating and there will be a message appearing on the LCD as “Matched”. Otherwise the motor will remain still and now the message on the LCD will be “Wrong Password”.

CONCLUSION:

The password based door lock system is a simple project which provides high security and we can make it by using commonly available components. It can be used at residential places or in an organization to keep secure the confidential information. The main disadvantage of this project is once you will forget the password then it will be too hard to open the door.

AVR based counter with programming

Firstly we should know about AVR, the creator of AVR was not having proper word to describe their creature but AVR stands for

A= Alf ( Egil bogen )

V= vegard (wollan)

R= RISC

RISC stands for reduced instruction set computing. It’s a CPU based design strategy insight to identify or simplify instruction set, which provide high performance when it combines with a microprocessor or microcontroller architecture, which is capable to execute those instruction which are using fewer microprocessor or microcontroller cycles per instruction.

AVR stands in computer are AUTOMATIC VOLTAGE REGULATOR. AVR is hardware used to control/ maintains voltage for electronic equipments, AVR is capable for identify & understand the human voice

Note that the use of ‘AVR’ in this article generally refers to 8 bit RISC line of Atmel AVR microcontrollers.

What is Atmel? Basically AVR is a modified Harvard architecture of 8 bit RISC single chip microcontroller; it was developed in 1996 by Atmel. It is an American based designer and manufacturer of semiconductors.

Object counters are used for applications like counting the number of visitors at supermarkets and other public places, the project presented here the demonstration the working of an object counter suitable for industrial applications. It is an AVR Microcontroller (MCU) based full featured programmable counter. In the industry of manufacturing, before the product is ready, the product will go under many stages of manufacturing process. First, the operator enters the product under counting using AVR Microcontroller (MCU) from monitoring console. Circuit operation is done using the software program into the internal memory of the AVR MCU. The program implementation required some functionalities like handling user input (push button/sensors/toggle switches), LCD for display message and relay for making on & off concept with security. There are some projects based on AVR microcontroller.

1) BLDC motor controlling through AVR controller

2) Detection of finger print using AVR

3) Un-interruptible bench top Frequency measurement using AVR counter based project ETC

Embedded System Training is a Big hit at Noida- Sofcon

Embedded system has emerged as an integral part of almost all major sectors involving technology. Be it communication, electronics, electrical, name any and it has the application. This has considerably pushed up demand for workforce trained in embedded system which has sent the number of students enrolling in IT training institutes for such courses soaring.

Noida being a semiconductor design hub with some big names in the industry present, along with huge presence of IT sector here, has led to embedded system training providers to do rather well. "Number of students opting for embedded systems is increasing at a staggering rate," said Pravjot Singh, director and COO of EmbLogic Embedded Technologies. "There is an increased realisation that embedded systems is not merely for electronics engineering students, but also for students from streams like computer science, telecommunications, electrical and instrumentation technology."
EmbLogic is a technology design, integration and devices realisation company, providing end-to-end embedded solutions for product development and deployment based in Noida. Institutes state that they have seen 30 to 50 percent growth in student registration annually in last five years.

However, they point out that it is still not enough to meet the rising demand for engineers. "It is still way short of the required mark. At this rate it will take minimum 10 years for Indian market to have sufficient number," said Singh. He added that even in other countries, growth rate is hovering around 30 percent approximately.
Singh pointed out that only 3 percent of required skilled workforce is available in India. This has resulted in heavy losses to design/product based companies as the work has to be outsourced abroad. But players unanimously say that the change in trend towards embedded system training is definitely heartening to see. Main reason attributed to increase in number of students enrolling is the rising awareness among students about its prospects.

"Numerous companies have demand for embedded engineers with experience in designing and implementation," said Vikas Kalra,technical marketing director, Sofcon, another leading institute from Noida. "We can say good placement opportunity and tremendous growth is the main reason for increase in number of students enrolling."

Kalra said that Noida is always the first choice for students to undergo training on various cutting edge technologies like embedded systems. "Major players of semiconductor industries like Cadence, Freescale, Mentor Graphics and others are present in Noida, and it definitely helps students to learn about placement requirements and recruitment cycle." He added that SOFCON also invites officials from these companies to visit institute and give guest lectures and students interaction to enrich their learning experience.

The training basically trains students to design embedded devices. It involves Hardware designing, embedded C programming, firmware design, Linux operating system internals, embedded operating systems design, device driver development, protocols design and implementing, embedded processors design and architecture, embedded applications development.

The main reason that necessitates training in embedded design is the ever-changing technology. It is the most dynamic aspect of any industry and a person regularly dealing with it needs to be updated.
